This year's biggest piece of trash has officially landed. Matchbook Romance shows us just how low they can get with their latest album 'Voices'. And what a dramatic fall from grace it is! With new albums comes greater band maturity but in the case of MR, they have channeled their experience into a shambolic cacophony of noises.
Listening to this album launches me into a moody feel. Yes, emo is good but no, this is totally the wrong brand of it. From the first track "You Can Run But We'll Find You", I knew that something was horribly wrong. After spoiling us with such hits like "Lovers and Liars" and "Tiger Lily", MR fans have been eagerly anticipating their followup album. "With great power comes great responsibility." Apparently some members haven't been watching enough Spider Man. I mean why fix something if it ain't broken?
At best, they sound like a Taking Back Sunday suffering from depression with their use of dual vox on some tracks. That's at best; most of the time they just seem to be carrying a weirdly mutated strain of HIM's famed brand of Love Metal. Come on let's face it, they try to be but they are no Finch (Say Hello To Sunshine). They lack the aggressiveness, speed and technicality. Personally, I feel that they are just trying to position themselves into too many musical markets. Such that it becomes far too difficult to classify their genre. And as listeners, we hate it. Well what the hell at least the droning vocals that drag on too for far too long give the Gregorian monks a run for their money.
Dump it, burn it do whatever with it argh just stop talking about it. Wait a minute are you even sure this is Matchbook Romance?
